Why you will LOVE This Recipe

Here in the FFF kitchen, there is certainly NO shortage of baking recipes. We’ve got ALL the goodies around here and you know what is ONE treat that I can never make enough recipes for? BROWNIES! From healthy greek yogurt brownies to instant pot brownies and beyond, there is something for everyone and that’s why I had to give a sugar-free brownie recipe a try! That’s right, these brownies contain no refined sugar, and are sweetened instead with Truvia. They are just as dense, chewy and fudgy as all your brownie dreams but they leave out the sugar- you and your crew will love them!

Ingredients Needed

Making your own sugar-free brownie mix at home is a cinch, and you will wonder why you ever picked up the store-bought version before once you try these! The recipe calls for a handful of typical baking ingredients, as well as a refined sugar-free sweetener so that the brownies can satisfy your sweet tooth. You may already have most of the ingredients you will need hanging around your kitchen! Here’s everything you will need to gather before getting started:

  • Egg
  • Egg Yolk
  • Avocado Oil
  • Truvia
  • Vanilla
  • All Purpose Flour (or gluten free 1:1 flour to make gluten free dairy free brownies)
  • Cocoa Powder
  • Salt
  • Baking Soda
  • Mini Chocolate Chips

How to make Sugar Free Brownies

Prepare

Turn on the oven and let it preheat. Line the bottom of your brownie pan with parchment, rubbing the sides with oil.

Mix

Using an electric hand mixer, beat together the eggs, oil, truvia and vanilla in a large bowl. Stir in the flour, cocoa powder, salt and baking soda until combined, then fold in the chocolate chips.

Bake

Pour the batter into your prepared pan and bake until the top is JUST set.

Chill

Place the brownies directly into the fridge for a while to chill, then let chill the rest of the way on the counter.

DEVOUR

Slice your brownies and enjoy!

What makes brownies fudgy?

We all enjoy brownies in different ways. Some like it dense and heavy, like eating miniature chocolate cakes. Some also enjoy a decadent and rich dessert. But what do you need to do for this to happen? Fudgy brownies have a higher fat-to-flour ratio. This means you should add more butter and chocolate. Adding more fat means you’ll end up with moist, more chocolatey treats. The amount of eggs and
sweeteners do not change. You can also make egg less brownies if you have allergies or turn your favorite treat vegan-friendly and they’ll be just as good!

Top Tips for making Sugar-Free Brownies

  1. Use Truvia: Although a different sweetener could potentially work in this recipe, I have not tried anything else so I recommend sticking to truvia!
  2. Don’t Over bake: You will want to bake these brownies until the top is JUST set. Be careful to not over bake, or they will be very dry.
  3. Chill: To achieve that chewy, dense brownie texture and stop them from baking immediately, I recommend placing the brownie pan directly into the fridge from the oven to chill for 15 minutes. After the 15 minutes is up, feel free to pull the brownies from the oven and let them cool COMPLETELY on the counter top before enjoying!

Are sugar-free brownies okay on a low carb diet?

Sadly no. This recipe uses regular cocoa powder and chocolate which has high amounts of carbohydrates. These ingredients are obviously not compatible with a keto diet. However, if you want to turn your Sugar-Free Brownies into a keto-friendly or low-carb recipe, substitute the cocoa powder for a low sugar version and use dark chocolate that has at least 70% cocoa. You will also need to substitute the all purpose flour for a low carb flour like almond or coconut flour.

Are sugar-free brownies okay for diabetes?

The straight answer is Yes! Sugar and carbs contents of food will affect the blood sugar of a diabetes patient. As long as you watch your carb and sugar intake, these brownies are safe to eat for diabetics. Consult your doctor first to know how to manage your blood sugar levels and if this recipe is okay for your consumption. You don’t have to miss out on your favorite sweet treats as long as you eat them in safe
amounts.

How to tell when brownies are done?

For brownies that have a cake-like consistency and density, take them out of the oven when the sides start to pull away from the tray or baking pan. You can also stick a toothpick in the middle of a piece and if it comes out clean they’re done.
For fudgy brownies, just bake them within the time range stated in our recipe. This will ensure the brownies stay moist and fudgy.

Brownie Storage

I recommend storing these brownies in an airtight container. They will last in the fridge in a container for up to a week! If you want to freeze them and enjoy them when needed, feel free to place the airtight container, labeled, into the freezer and they will last up to 3 months.
