This meatless, veggie-packed Falafel Burger is a vegan dream come true!
Table of Contents
When I was younger, there weren’t many options for meatless food that actually tastes good. If you were vegetarian, you would just order food with no meat, and if you were vegan, well…you probably didn’t dine out much. Despite never taking on one of these diets myself, the idea always infuriated me. And once my sister went vegetarian, I became especially keen on trying to find delicious food options that fit her dietary preferences.
Nowadays, there are delicious and nutritious vegetarian substitutes! I often find myself ordering vegan options anyway because they genuinely sound delicious!
One of my favorite vegan delicacies has become Falafel. It’s a meat substitute made primarily of chickpeas (also great in salads!) with fantastic flavor and texture. Falafel is great for nuggets, pita, and, of course, burgers.
This particular recipe for Falafel Burgers beats out the rest because it includes fresh produce, whole wheat buns, and a flavorful falafel patty that makes the entire thing shine! It’s a healthy, vegan-friendly, but loved-by-everyone meal that might just replace your favorite burger.
Is A Falafel Burger Healthy?
Falafel is incredibly healthy because it contains fiber, protein, micronutrients, vitamins, and minerals! WOW! It may also help with weight management and keeping blood sugar levels regulated. When you add this super patty to your Falafel Burger, topped with fresh veggies and a fiber-filled whole-wheat bun, you’ve got a pretty healthy dish.
How To Prepare The Perfect Falafel Burger
There is definitely an art to perfecting your falafel patty and achieving a gold-medal-worthy burger. Getting a thin patty is important (think of a smash burger.) You can do this by portioning your mixture using an ice cream scoop or eyeballing it. Then, you’ll want to flatten your scoops out. After you’ve shaped your thin patties, allow them to chill and harden– falafel is very delicate, and you don’t want it to fall apart before you bake it. Once you’ve taken the measures to ensure a perfect patty, you can bake them until they’re golden!

FAQs & Tips
You can assemble your falafel patties and store them in the freezer for about three months before cooking them. Once baked, the patties can be stored in the fridge for up to 5 days, but keep them separate from buns, condiments, and other toppings.
While this recipe calls for canned chickpeas, I prefer fresh ones! Canned chickpeas are already cooked, which makes it harder for them to remain bonded. If you can use fresh chickpeas, I recommend it.
Like a regular beef burger, you can customize your Falafel Burger. If you want to keep it healthy, I suggest fresh produce toppings like cucumber, tomato, lettuce, and onion. You can also add condiments like mayo, ketchup, mustard, ranch, or an Aioli.
