This quick and easy Homemade Fajita Seasoning recipe will be your new go-to! Made with simple ingredients and better and healthier than store bought!

Homemade fajita mix in a spice container on a counterPIN Homemade Fajita Seasoning

You know what is sort of silly?

That we buy fajita mix. I mean, it is SO easy to make and it is a lot better for you when you make it at home. As you know, I’m an “all foods fit” kinda girl, but looking at the ingredients of a spice mix that should be SUPER simple and seeing a bunch of ingredients I can’t read?

It makes me a little uneasy. Especially when you probably have all the fajita spices to make your own in your pantry already!

How To Make Fajita Seasoning

Step 1 is you need to grab your fajita spices! The spices that you will need are:

  • Paprika
  • Chile Powder
  • Cumin
  • Garlic Powder
  • Onion Powder
  • Salt
  • Red pepper flakes

Mix Them UP

Once you have all your fajita seasoning ingredients you are ready to get mixing!

Simply place all the ingredients into a small, air-tight container, screw on the lid TIGHTLY and SHAKE THEM UP. You could also just stir them together but shaking is infinitely more fun!

POOF, it’s really that easy. DIY fajita seasoning that is ready to use RIGHT NOW.

How to store your homemade fajita seasoning

I keep all my homemade spices in small, airtight containers that have twist-top lids and little holes on the sides of the lid (for sprinkling.) My favorite ones are these containers because they stick to your refrigerator which makes grabbing them a cinch!

How long does Homemade Fajita Seasoning Last?

I’ve had my mixed on my refrigerator for a good 4 or 5 months now and they are still great! Around the 6 month mark (if you make it that long) you will probably want to make a new batch to keep the flavor great!

Change up your Homemade Fajita Mix

Spice, spice baby – do you like your fajitas spicier? You can use MORE red pepper flakes, or even swap them for cayenne pepper. Just be sure to not add too much because a little cayenne goes a LONG way.

Add oregano – If you want this to be more like taco seasoning, you can add in some dried oregano!

Add some salt – This recipe is less salty than traditional store-bought variations because I know some people can’t handle/don’t want to eat as much salt. If you want to make it more comparable to store bought fajita seasoning mix, you can add more salt!

Give it a bite – personally, I don’t like pepper. Like, at all. But, if you like a peppery bite in your mix, feel free to add in some pepper!

This seasoning mix seasoning is customizable to Y-O-U!

Ways to Use Homemade Fajita Seasoning

Of course, you can use this to make fajitas, since that’s the whole purpose. BUT you could also get creative and use it in a few other ways! Some of my favorite ways are

  • Sprinkled in eggs or taco breakfast egg muffins
  • To make your own Chipotle burrito bowl
  • Spice up some baked chicken tenders
  • Throw it in a grilled corn salad
  • Make a Mexican quinoa casserole

Once you taste a homemade blend you will wonder why you ever bought it in the first place! So much fresher and yummier!

And you know what I say to that?

Arrrrriba!
