Ever wondered how to make oat milk? It’s easier than you think and so much cheaper than store bought! Naturally gluten free, vegan and healthy too!

Pin How to Make Oat Milk

OATMILK

It’s the newest latest and greatest dairy free milk and happens to be one of our favorites!

And if you’ve ever wondered “what does oat milk taste like” you are in for a treat because it is DELISH!

It’s super creamy, has this subtle nutty flavor from the oats and tastes a whole lot like cows’ milk so it’s great for those who can’t drink it but still want to get the milky taste – like Mr. FFF!

What is oat milk?

Oat milk is typically made with steel cut oats that are soaked in water, blended and then strained though a nut milk bag. Because oats are more absorbent then nuts, more of the food passes through the nut milk bag than when making nut milk so it has a creamier texture.

HOWEVER, I found an easier way to make oat milk who rolled oats so you can skip the soaking step!

Where to buy oat milk?

Oat milk is SUPER popular now, so you buy it at almost any supermarket, natural grocery store or even Walmart! There are many brands, so it should be easy to find!

However, it’s easy and cheaper to make it yourself which is why I’m going to show you how to make oat milk in just a second!

Oat Milk Ingredients

The ingredient list for this oat milk recipe is incredibly short and I be you already have the ingredients on hand:

  • Rolled, old-fashioned oats (can be gluten free)
  • Salt
  • Vanilla (optional)
  • Purified water

How to make oat milk

Blend

Place all of your ingredients into a high powdered blender and blend until smooth and creamy, about 1 minute.

Cool

Let stand for 1 hour until the milk is cool enough to handle. You don’t want to burn yourself when you put it through the bag!

Blend again

Blend it one more time to combine it all together

Strain

Pour your oat milk into a nut milk bag that is set on top of a bowl, large measuring cup or anything that you want to store your milk in. Use your hands to ring it through the nut milk bag until it is fully strained.

And just like that you are done!

How to store

Because this oatmik does not have any stabilizers in it, it will not last as long as store bought oat milk. You want to store your oat milk in an air-tight container in the refrigerator for about a week.

What to do with it

You can use oat milk in pretty much anything, just like the cashew milk recipe. But some of my favorites are:

  • Banana peanut butter overnight oats
  • Banana matcha smoothie
  • Whole wheat vegan pancakes
  • Energy quinoa breakfast bars

You can also use it as a dairy free coffee creamer, in a bowl of homemade cinnamon toast crunch or just to drink!

The options are basically endless.

It’s creamy, it’s dreamy, it’s velvety smooth and fancy-person you just made your own oat milk.
