  • Strawberry Sauce Recipe

Strawberry sauce is a versatile treat that can be enjoyed on a variety of dishes. Unlike jam or preserves, which are thicker and set with pectin, strawberry sauce has a liquid consistency that captures the fresh and juicy essence of the fruit. To make our sauce, you only need strawberries, sugar, and lemon juice. Together, they transform into an aromatic, colorful mixture.

Strawberry sauce’s history can be linked back to dessert toppings, where fresh berries were frequently used to enhance the sweetness of dishes. Crafting strawberry sauce at home is a fulfilling process that lets you adjust the level of sweetness to your preference. It’s a way to enhance any dessert with the taste of summer.

Some people use the addition of vinegar or vanilla extract to change up the flavor a bit. The vanilla adds a sweet touch, while vinegar adds a sharp bite to the sauce. In this recipe, we will stick with the basics and let the strawberries speak for themselves.

In general, sauces are essential in home cooking and fine dining. Some popular ones you can find on FFF are Dairy-Free Vegan Caramel Sauce, Honey Mustard Dipping Sauce, and even Onion Ring Sauce. Sauces make everything better, and strawberry sauce is at the top of my list. It’s simple, low in calories, and looks as good as it tastes.

Is Strawberry Sauce Healthy?

Although there is sugar in strawberry sauce, it’s a fairly healthy treat. Plus, you can add less sugar than the recipe calls for or eliminate it altogether. You can also try honey in place of sugar. Strawberries are a healthy food full of antioxidants, vitamin C, magnesium, folate, and potassium. They are also a great source of fiber.

Are fresh strawberries better than frozen ones?

When it comes to preparing strawberry sauce, fresh strawberries stand out. Their natural juices and sweet, vibrant flavor are unmatched. The firm texture of strawberries allows them to break down beautifully into a sauce without becoming mushy or watery. Using fresh strawberries gives you control over the sweetness and tanginess by selecting ripe berries at their peak. And let’s not overlook the scent that wafts through your kitchen when cooking with fresh strawberries – it’s simply heavenly! While frozen strawberries offer convenience, they may lack the flavor profile and tend to release more water, potentially diluting the sauce. Therefore, for strawberry sauce, opting for fresh berries is undoubtedly the way to go!

FAQs & Tips

How to Make Ahead and Store

To store strawberry sauce make sure it cools down to room temperature first. Put the sauce in a glass container with a lid to keep it fresh. Don’t forget to label the container with the date. Keep it in the fridge for up to 1 week. If you want to store it longer, you can freeze the sauce in an airtight container and keep it in the freezer for up to 4 months.

How do you replace the sugar with honey?

As mentioned, replacing the sugar with honey is a viable option and often a healthier alternative. Generally, 2/3 cup of honey replaces 1 cup of sugar. In this recipe, which calls for 1/3 cup sugar, use about 4 Tbsp of honey.

Do I need to pick fresh strawberries?

Picking fresh strawberries to make your strawberry sauce is a great option if it’s the right time of year and you are near a berry patch. However, strawberry season is short and not everyone is able to go pick fresh berries. No worries! Most grocery stores carry fresh strawberries all year round, and those will work just fine. It doesn’t matter where your fresh strawberries come from; just don’t use frozen ones, or you will have runny strawberry sauce with less flavor.
