The Crispy Secret
When it comes to cooking in the kitchen, I’m all about those secrets that make recipes EXTRA good. Fries, in my opinion, need to be crispy. You can’t have one without the other, and I’m gonna let you in on the secret ingredient that makes these baked parsnip fries the best there is! Cornstarch seems like a simple ingredient, but it’s the key to crispy fries that will make you keep coming back for more!
How to make Parsnip Oven Fries
Preheat
Set your oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit.
Slice
Peel all the parsnips and slice them into ¼ inch strips. Toss them, first with the oil, then with the starch until well coated and combined.
Spread
Carefully spread out the fries onto your pan, leaving space between each fry. You may need to use 2 pans to ensure even baking and to not overcrowd them. Sprinkle the fries with seasoning salt and regular salt.
Bake
Bake for 10 minutes, then remove pans from the oven and sprinkle with a little bit more seasoning salt. Place the pans back in the oven and continue baking an additional 7-15 minutes, or until the fries are golden and crispy.
DEVOUR
Serve them up and enjoy!
What do Parsnip Fries go with?
These fries are SO delish all on their own, but if you’re into sauces then listen up! I recommend dipping these fries in:
- Sugar Free Low Carb BBQ sauce
- The Avocado Cilantro dip from my baked sweet potato fries
- The Avocado Ranch dip from my Cheesy Buffalo Chicken Potato Poppers
- Good old ketchup!
Parsnip Fries FAQ
Parsnips are a similar color to potatoes so they look kind of like traditional french fries, but they have a complex taste. Similar to carrots, parsnips have a slight sweetness to them, but they also contain more starch so they have an earthy, nutty flavor that makes them PERFECT for these fries!
Parsnips and Potatoes are different. When you are deciding whether to make a batch of fries with russet potatoes or this baked parsnip fries recipe, you might be wondering which is a healthier choice. The truth is, the two vegetables contain similar nutritional value, although parsnips are lower in calories and much higher in fiber.
No, you don’t need to boil the parsnips. You will need to simply peel and chop the parsnips, rub them with a little oil and seasoning, and they’ll be ready to roast!
