Hi Sunday friends – it’s been awhile!
I had a bunch of things on the go but am excited to get back on track with this Sunday reflection.
Today, I want to talk about experiencing God. Not just reading about Him, or hearing about Him, but actually EXPERIENCING Him in your own life. This is something I have been really trying to do in the past couple months, and it has been quite successful!
I’ve found a LOT of freedom from the food/body image issues I’ve shared so openly on here, which I’ll write more about in a later reflection!
For so long I felt like there was no hope of victory and I wondered why I didn’t have the amazing power of Christ that the apostles had in the Bible. I read every day, I memorized verses, I prayed. I did all the “things.”
Maybe you’re in that spot too? Wondering why your actions aren’t translating into freedom, joy and HOPE. So, I ask you, have you actually experienced God in your life?
Like I said, this is a new thing for me and it is EXCITING.
There are two simple practices that I’ve started incorporating in my life that have helped and want to share with you. I am NOT saying I am perfect and this amazing Christian because I experience God and HAVE TO DO WHAT I DO. I just want to share what helps because maybe it will help you too ? I still fail daily and that will never change because, HELLO, I am a human.
Here are the steps:
- ASK God out loud to help you experience Him
- Be on the LOOKOUT for God and the Holy Spirit’s nudging.
Step 1 sounds totally silly, but the first thing I say (out loud!) when I get up from bed is “God, help me experience You today.”
That is seriously all. Then I go about my day.
BUT, as I go about my day, I’ve tried to be aware of God and the Holy Spirit in it. Sometimes, you really have to LOOK for these moments, and sometimes they are very apparent.
One week, it seemed that every single person I talked to, or scripture I read was about trusting God. Which was really cool and awesome, and I heard Him just so BOLDLY speak what I needed to hear. It happened EVERY single day.
One week it was just one simple scripture (James 1 22-25) that I had never really read before, and it just landed SO HARD. Instead of just breezing past that small, singular moment, I allowed myself to recognize that was God showing up.
No matter how small/big, if you ask God to show up?
He will.
Have you experienced God in your life? If you have other ways that have helped you do so, I would LOVE to hear them in the comments!
Happy Sunday!
