  • Medium-Boiled Eggs Recipe

Most folks are familiar with hard-boiled eggs, which is a favorite of so many egg lovers. But not everyone knows that a medium-boiled egg is also an option. The process is similar to preparing a hard-boiled egg, just not as long. In other words, it’s simple to cook a medium-boiled egg. So what’s in it for you? Well, you still get the firmness of a hard-boiled egg on the outside, but on the inside, the yolk is creamier. This consistency lends itself to a number of different dishes.

The eggs often served on top of ramen or over-medium fried eggs? They’re usually medium-boiled. They are simple but delightful and perfect for a snack or as a breakfast side dish. Plus, since you’re only using eggs and water, medium-boiled eggs are great for vegetarians, as well as those trying to avoid sodium, sugar, gluten, and carbs. Other than being allergic to eggs, there’s no reason not to give this a try.

If you find yourself with a large collection of eggs in your fridge but you’re not sure what to do with them, medium-boiled eggs are worth trying. But there are plenty of other ways to put those eggs to good use. You can always make scrambled eggs or learn how to cook eggs in the oven. You might also want to experiment with a recipe for cloud eggs or just whip up some good, old-fashioned deviled eggs.

Are Eggs Healthy?

Eating a medium-boiled egg is as healthy as eating a hard-boiled egg. Eggs are a good source of protein and various vitamins and minerals while also being low in sugar and sodium. As mentioned, this recipe is appropriate for vegetarians and those who maintain a gluten-free diet. Eggs contain dietary cholesterol, and its impact on blood cholesterol differs from one person to another, so those with heart issues may still be able to enjoy eggs. If it’s still a concern, you can limit your consumption to egg whites, as the cholesterol is primarily found in the yolk.

How To Make Your Egg-Boiling Easier

The recipe for medium-boiled eggs is quite simple, but there are a couple of things you can keep in mind. First, consider adding some distilled vinegar to your water to help cover up the egg smell while cooking and help prevent the shells from cracking. Also, while peeling the eggs, running them under lukewarm water can make that task a little easier. Finally, start peeling the egg at the wide end. There is usually an air bubble that can make it easier to start the peeling process.

FAQs & Tips

How do I prep and store these eggs?

It’s usually best to eat medium-boiled eggs right after cooking them. However, you can store them unpeeled inside the fridge for up to a week. If you prefer to peel them immediately, you should dry them off after removing the shell then store them in an airtight container in the fridge where they should last for three days.

Why are my eggs overdone?

Don’t delay in chilling the eggs once they’ve boiled. This will stop the cooking process and prevent your medium-boiled eggs from becoming hard-boiled eggs.

Serving Suggestions

Medium-boiled eggs are good as a stand-alone snack, but they can also be a good side dish for breakfast. For instance, they might go well next to a big stack of cottage cheese pancakes. If you feel like doubling down on eggs for breakfast, you can pair a medium-boiled egg with Ina Garten’s quiche. Finally, why not have a slightly less traditional sausage and eggs breakfast with a medium-boiled egg alongside air fryer breakfast sausage.
