Easy Homemade Paleo BBQ Sauce
You guys. I made my own CONDIMENT like an ultra healthy-hip-and-trendy Martha Stewart type person. Like, I didn’t get in my car and go to the store when I RAN out of BBQ sauce.
Which is, like A MAJOR travesty (big words) since its summer time.
AKA: GRILL EVERYTHING EXCEPT MY FACE BECAUSE OUCH. You just can’t be sans BBQ sauce because then your meals would just be so..SO INCOMPL-EAT.
You feel me.
It was one of the rare days of my existence that I REALLY didn’t want to put on real pants (read: only if “rare” means EVERY DAY OF MY LIFE) but I really wanted some grillety-grilled chicken.
Although, if you know of my Instagram life, you KNOW I LUHVE me some ketchup (p.s we’re making our own on Monday. I KNOW. WHO ARE WE?!) I just wasn’t FEELIN’ its squeezey-fun-bottled-tomato goodness.
SO, there comes a moment in every girls life where they have to sit down and figure out what is really important: lounging around in pajamas all day OR having chicken smothered in perfectly smoky-sweet thick, sauce that causes my taste buds to tingle all the way to my tippy-toes.
HOW-EV-ER, after much pondering (3 minutes) I could not chose the priority so I took the sauceless-scenario-shenanigans by the MANGO.
Like “by the horns” but healthier and more fruity and fresh. It makes sense if you think about it.
Anyway.
Okay guys. Real talk with me. Have you ever made your own paleo barbecue sauce?
And if yes, why haven’t you told me to do so LONG ago? I mean, I thought we were BFFS of the internet world. How could you keep the secret of it being the EASIEST thing EVER to make?
I’ve being going through this life phase of not wanting to-cook-eat-work-even-microwaving-a-bowl-of-oatmeal-seems-SO-HARD, so throwing a bunch of ingredients in a pot, walking away and twiddling my thumbs for 10 WHOLE MINUTES straight <— It might have been 2 minutes, then I got bored and watched TV. Whateverrrr. AND THEN coming back to the kitchen to a pot full of thick and spicy-sweet easy paleo bbq sauce with, WHOA, CURRY KICK?
Lazy-Taylor? She LIKEYYYY.
It’s kinda like the curried slow cooker mango chicken and sweet potato bowls. BUT SPREADABLE.
I mean, there is also a BUZZ of a blender in the above sauce making process, it doesn’t just – PRESTO- turn into perfectly smooth sauce just by chillin’ (or hottin’? Whatever, don’t think about it) over some flames for 10 minutes. Dates don’t just MELT like that.
P.s DATES. IN sauce. You know I’m obsessed with it by the whole30 sweet and sour paleo meatballs and bacon wrapped pineapple bites.
We’re talking, the naturally sweet and sticky little fruit-friends that are basically SOooOOoo perfect to balance out all the roasty-charred jalapeno pepper and zippy curry in this homemade bbq sauce recipe. PLUS x 2, they also make the sauce deliciously ULTRA thick. You know, like how any BBQ sauce worth even thinking about SHOULD BE.
Can we devote Fridays to homemade-tropically-NUM BBQ sauce and thumb wars?
I practiced for 2 WHOLE minutes.
I CAN TAKE YA.
P.s July 4th is tomorrow. Which means you should grill. Which means you now have an easy homemade paleo bbq sauce for aforementioned grill. You’re welcome.
Oh and, like, HAVE FUN.
Ingredients
- 1 Tsp Habanero Pepper roughly chopped (about 1/2 a pepper)
- 1 Cup Mango roughly chopped (about 1 large mango)
- 1/2 Cup Roughly chopped dates lightly packed (80g)
- 1/4 Cup Raw Apple cider vinegar
- 2 Tbsp Garlic minced
- 1/2 Tbsp Fresh ginger minced
- 1 Cup Tomato sauce
- 2 tsps Yellow curry powder
- 1 tsp Salt
- 1/2 tsp Pepper
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to HIGH broil.
- Cut a Habanero pepper in half and place it, cut-side down, onto a small baking sheet. Bake in the oven until the pepper's skin is black and roasted, about 5-10 minutes.
- Chop half of the pepper (it should be about 1 tsp) and place it into a large sauce pan.
- Add in the remaining ingredients, stirring to combine. Bring the mixture to a boil over medium/high heat.
- Once boiling, reduce the heat to medium and simmer until the sauce begins to thicken, about 10 minutes. Stir frequently so the bottom doesn't burn.
- Once thick, scrape the mixture into a large food processor and blend until smooth.
- DEVOUR
