Instant Pot Boiled Potatoes FAQ
I recommend using red potatoes for this recipe, but you could also use yellow potatoes or russet potatoes and they should turn out great!
For whole potatoes cooked on the stovetop in a regular pot, it takes about 20-30 minutes, depending on the size of the potatoes. If you chop them up first, it cuts down on cook time a little bit.
For this boiled potatoes recipe, I strongly recommend using a trivet to place the potatoes on while they cook. If not, they will absorb a lot of the water in the pot, which you don’t want.
It takes only 13 minutes to boil potatoes in instant pot! It’s much faster than doing it on a stovetop and the result is the same!

Potatoes can be the perfect side dish for so many main dish recipes, because they are SO versatile and pair well with a variety of textures and flavors. Dress them up or eat them plain with a bit of butter and salt, and they’re a satisfying and filling addition to any meal! I recommend serving these potatoes alongside some everything bagel chicken or simple coffee rubbed steak, and finishing it off with some perfectly cooked sauteed green beans with crispy prosciutto.
