My One Word for 2016 1

So it’s a pretty common thing to do at the beginning of every year… Have you chosen one word for 2016 yet?

I actually discovered mine a couple weeks ago…

Last year, my word was “flourish.” Brought me back to my college days where Knox’s motto was “Freedom to Flourish.”

Our homeschool adventure was just beginning. Everyday Faith and Fitness was starting to blossom. Flourish seemed like a perfect word.

nourish new year's resolutionThis year… Phonetically very similar. But perhaps something I overlooked: NOURISH.

I want to focus on “support, encouragement, development”…fostering the processes necessary for growth – all through love. For my family. For those I meet. And for myself…

My biggest goal for Everyday Faith and Fitness is that women will come to own Ephesians 5:29:

For no one ever hated his own flesh, but nourishes and cherishes it, just as Christ does the church.

I know how all too common it is for women to “hate their bodies.” And I just have this deep-seeded passion for us all to recognize:

*that God created us uniquely on purpose.

*that he does not make mistakes.

*that we are fearfully and wonderfully made.

What an insult to Him when we constantly critique (or complacently neglect taking care of) our bodies! We are His masterpiece and He is the perfect artist.

Ladies, it’s time to NOURISH. Break free from the self-defeating thoughts in your head. Be proud of who you are and do your very best at taking care of what He’s given you. I know it’s a very fine line between obsessive conceit and healthy pride, but I’m guessing you can feel the difference.

We’ve been blessed with these bodies for only a short season. Take care of them well!

Praying so hard that this is the year for freedom from negativity and growth through  love!

How about you? What’s your word for 2016?
