You know how Mr. FFF ALWAYS requests Cajun recipes? Well, except for those cardamom cranberry clusters…but that was a RARE instance.
Well, THIS recipe was actually MY IDEA and you know what? Mr. FFF told me that it would be BAD.
Like what? The man that made me make Instant Pot Cajun Chili, Cajun Grilled Cod and even Cajun cauliflower casserole telling me that a normal salmon recipe would not work?
Naturally, I was right (I am the food blogger, you know) and the spiciness of the Cajun seasoning with the fatty, buttery-flaky salmon and that pop of sticky-sweetness from the honey was just PERFECT.
In your face Mr.FFF.
Ermmm, in your mouth?
What is Cajun Seasoning Made Of?Â
Since I cannot resist the flavors of cajun food, I make a LOT of it around here. As you know, Mr. FFF is obsessed and there’s no denying that I am too! I love cajun seasoning because you can cook up pretty much any meat or veggie and sprinkle it on top- it’s guaranteed to add some fun and southern flair to any dish, like Cajun Burgers with Sweet Potato buns, Watermelon Feta Salad with Cajun Shrimp or THIS Cajun salmon recipe! Here are the spices that blend together to make cajun seasoning:
- Onion Powder
- Garlic Powder
- Seasoning Salt
- Paprika
- Ground Black Pepper
- Cayenne Pepper
- Oregano
- ThymeÂ
- Red Pepper Flakes

How to Cook Salmon in The Oven?
There are a variety of ways to cook and enjoy salmon and I love them ALL! Salmon is one of those proteins that’s so delicate, fatty, flaky, and tastes so delicious! Baking it is one of the easiest ways to cook salmon, and here’s how:
Preheat
Set your oven to 425 degrees Fahrenheit and allow it to fully preheat. Line a roasting pan or baking sheet with foil.Â
Prepare
Pat dry your salmon using a paper towel. Drizzle some oil over the salmon and rub it in with your fingers. Sprinkle with salt and pepper generously. Place the salmon on your roasting pan, skin side down, and put the pan in the oven.Â
Cook
For every half inch of salmon, roast for 4-6 minutes. 4 minutes will result in salmon that is still slightly rare, and 6 minutes will be a well done piece of salmon. Salmon is done when it easily flakes when poked with a fork.Â
Enjoy
Serve salmon immediately with sides as desired.
Salmon Internal TempÂ
When cooking this creole salmon, or any salmon for that matter (unless you’re making a smoked salmon salad and it’s cooked for you!) it’s important to know how rare or well done you like your salmon. A lot of websites and cookbooks recommend an internal temperature of 145 degrees Fahrenheit, however, in my opinion, that’s a little overdone! I prefer to cook it to about 120 degrees, then remove it from the oven, cover it, and let it rest. This will allow the temperature to continue to rise slightly and the salmon is the perfect medium rare!Â
What to Serve with Baked Honey Cajun SalmonÂ
This incredible cajun deliciousness is SO good all on its own, but if you want to make it a meal, there are lots of sides that pair beautifully with it! I recommend cooking up some cauliflower rice (check out How to cook Cauliflower Rice to learn 4 different ways to make it!) or brown rice to go alongside this salmon. Adding some freshness would also make this meal delish, so a Pomegranate Persimmon Salad on the side
will definitely kick your salmon dinner plate up a notch!
Cajun Salmon fAQ
ABSOLUTELY! Salmon is a fantastic food to add to your diet because it is rich in omega-3 fatty acids, which aid in the maintenance of heart health as well as benefits our skin, joints and hormonal balance. Eating salmon can also support healthy brain function, and is loaded with protein which helps keep our bodies strong and energized.
There are many great ways to cook salmon! In this recipe, I roasted the salmon in the oven which allowed the flavors to really permeate into the fish.
If you are looking to roast your salmon, I recommend setting your oven to 425 degrees Fahrenheit and cooking the fish until it’s flaky and cooked through!
